Saturday - Work is good for the soul

Long and productive day. I was up early as I am most days and out at the DYI store at 7am picking up supplies for today’s project: Begin repair work on the screened porch. I had hoped to make more progress than I did but reality hit and I had to clear everything off the porch and do a good job washing it down. Clearing the porch took 40 minutes going at a relaxed pace. Why relaxed? Why not! I don’t have to kill myself anymore. I just need to make steady real progress, and I did. After that I ripped down the remaining screening, all of which was in bad shape. I hosed and scrubbed the porch with a bleach/soap/water mixture and just watched the mold turn black. This was reasonably hard work. I tried to wear eye protection while doing this but they instantly fogged up. So much for safety and anyway, bleach isn’t SO bad…is it?

After doing all this, I put all the stuff back on the porch (about 35 minutes) minus stuff to toss out. I took a break from about 4-5:30. At 5:30 the mower came out and I did the front and back in one shot, which is my habit these days. Takes about 45 minutes to an hour. I was glad it was done as the lawn, such as it is, was looking pretty ratty.

By about 7 I was settled into dinner. On Thursday I bought a block of cave aged Gruyère cheese (11.99/pound). It’s really a very nice cheese. I don’t purchase it too often but, what the hell. I had a serving of that cheese for lunch and dinner on Saturday. 2.5 ounces, allowed to warm to room temperature and served with an apple which had been chilled to just short of freezing, and then sliced and served. Cheese and crackers my ass. Cheese and apple! Of course I had my cooked veggies, salad and brown basmati rice before the climatic cheese and apple.

Finished up the evening watching a movie on TV with the kid. Cute movie: Hitch with Will Smith. I enjoy his movies almost without exception. Actually, I can’t think of an exception.

Later…
